Development History of Wide Belt Sanders in China
Before 2005, wide belt sanders in China were mainly calibrating sanders. The sanding units were primarily sanding roller units and sanding pad units. At that time, sanding pads were solid pads rather than segmented pads.
The common configurations included single-belt roller type, twin-belt roller and pad type, three-belt roller-roller-roller type, or roller-roller-pad type. Some Chinese factories also built double-surface sanding machines in a single body, with sanding units similar to those mentioned above.
Rise of Brush Sanding Machines (Around 2005)
Around 2005, Qingdao Giantway Machinery Co., Ltd. (formerly known as Qingdao JCH Woodworking Machinery Co., Ltd.) was the first in China to start manufacturing brush sanding machines. At that time, China’s real estate industry was rapidly growing.
Giantway brush sanding machines quickly dominated the wood door and cabinet manufacturing industries. Under its influence, many factories in Qingdao city began producing brush sanding machines.
Planer Sanders for High Efficiency (Around 2010)
Around 2010, the furniture manufacturing industry was booming, and the market demanded higher efficiency sanding solutions. More manufacturers wanted to integrate planing and sanding into a single machine, leading to the development of planer sanders in China.
Qingdao Giantway Machinery Co., Ltd. developed three-head machines with a planer head, a steel roller head, and a combination sanding head. Planer sanders soon became high-efficiency equipment for solid wood factories.
Emergence of Sanding Lines (Around 2015)
Around 2015, separate top and bottom sanding machines began to meet market demands. Single-body double-surface sanders could no longer achieve the precision required for furniture manufacturing.
Giantway produced independent top sanders and bottom sanders, adding conveyor machines between them to form sanding lines. Later, automatic loading and unloading systems were added, and this production mode has continued until today.
High-End Piano Sanders (Around 2020)
Around 2020, high-end custom furniture required more advanced sanding solutions for veneer and lacquer surfaces. Qingdao Giantway Machinery Co., Ltd. launched electromagnetic piano sanders.
These machines can achieve extremely fine surfaces on veneer or lacquer panels. After top coating, the panel surface can reach mirror-level finishing.
Current Development
Since 2020, major sanding machine manufacturers have focused on piano sanders. Some factories developed pneumatic piano sanders, while only a few manufacturers, such as Giantway, continue to develop electromagnetic piano sanders.
Today, Qingdao Giantway Machinery Co., Ltd. offers dozens of piano sander configurations, covering various sanding requirements for high-end furniture manufacturing.
