How to Do Sanding Job for PET Panels

Hello guys, we are Giantway, a professional sanding machine manufacturer and sanding solution supplier. Many customers are interested in how to do sanding job for PET panels.  Today, we would like to share our experience with you.

Characteristics of PET Panels

PET panels have excellent wear resistance and stability, and they are widely favored because they can achieve  skin-feeling or high-gloss surface effects.

When talking about PET panel sanding, we must mention melamine boards,   because the base panels of PET are mostly melamine boards. Only after doing a perfect sanding job on melamine panels can the PET layer be laminated smoothly and firmly.

Main Challenges in Melamine Board Sanding

Challenge 1: Panel Deformation

Nearly all melamine panels are shape-transformed because they are hot-pressed during the manufacturing process. Therefore, the sanding machine must be able to process deformed panels and ensure the entire surface is sanded evenly.

Challenge 2: Extremely Thin Surface Layer

The thickness of the melamine layer is usually below 0.1mm,which requires precise sanding — no over-sanding and no under-sanding. Only in this way can the PET surface be smooth and delicate after lamination.

How to Meet These Challenges

  • Soft rubber sanding roller:      The sanding roller should be made of soft rubber with sufficient thickness. The roller diameter should reach 320mm or above,  allowing it to compensate for panel deformation and achieve uniform sanding.

  • High-precision feeding table:   The feeding table should be finely machined with stable lifting performance, minimizing cumulative tolerance transferred to the panels.

  • Strong and precise press system:     The press system should have a corrective effect on bent panels,  ensuring stable sanding pressure across the entire surface.

Recommended Sanding Machine Model

Based on the sanding requirements above, we recommend the SGJ1300R-RB Fine Sander.

  • Rubber roller diameter: 320mm

  • Abrasive belt perimeter: 2620mm

  • Lifting system: Ball screw structure

  • Lifting tolerance: 0.01mm

  • Main motors: Inverter motors

This machine features high precision and excellent thickness compensation.  It is an ideal model for melamine board sanding and  primer sanding.
